How to Identify Types of High-Heeled Wedge Shoes

How to Identify Types of High-Heeled Wedge Shoes

High heel wedges have become increasingly popular for not only their style, but comfort. They are most widely known as a summer shoe, for the sandal like qualities they posses, as well as the light-weight materials wedges are made of.

Step
1

Consider the name of the shoe. A wedge, by definition, is a triangular structure. Since this is in regard to the heel of a shoe, merely looking at the heel and seeing a triangular structure to it, would make it a wedge.

Step
2

Notice the materials the shoe is made of. Wedges are made of a number of different things, the most popular being cork. You'll also find them in leather and solid wood. The sandal or decorative part of the shoe may include any of the standard shoe materials you are familiar with.

Step
3

Look at the structure of the wedge high heel. Wedges have solid foundations on them so they can be made and worn higher than the average high heel without the added strain on your back, feet, knees and other joints. For better ankle support, look for wedges with straps in addition to the slip on style.

Step
4

Find the right fit for your feet. Wedges don't curve up and wrap around the foot, like many other forms of high heels, so you will want to make sure you find a wedge where your foot is firmly on the pad and not hanging over. In the same regard, look to make sure there isn't too much room behind the heel or the shoe may slide around causing friction and injury to the foot.
